Brian Gray takes advantage of safety car interrupted GT1/GT2 race
Brian Gray has taken advantage of a safety car in the handicapped TradeZone GT1/GT2 race at Pukekohe Park. Scott Carswell finished second and was the first of the GT2 cars home. Kerry Jones grabbed the final podium position just 0.001s behind Carswell!
A mid-race safety car was deployed for Shane Whitley who lost his rear wing heading into turn one and spun backwards into the wall, causing terminal damage to his Ford Falcon and leaving the wall in need of adjustment. The safety car bunched the field up, disrupting the handicapping and created a race full of passing for the remaining few laps.
Nigel Karl took fourth place ahead of Struan Roberston, Morris Turner, Hans Ruiterman, Marvyn Towers, Sean Kirkpatrick and the pole sitter Maurice Shapley who ended the race tenth. Nigel Snow was the last of the runners on the lead lap in 11th.
Adam Newell, Cameron Jones and John De Veth rounded out the field a lap down after their 126-second handicap.
